Hundreds Defrauded in Foreign Employment Scam

"Visa agent dupes 300 job aspirants"

"A man posing as a visa and foreign employment agent duped more than 300 aspirants and decamped with the application money... According to police, a man who identified himself as Ketan Mehta, placed an advertisement in Gujarati dailies in November inviting applications for salesmen at malls in Dubai and Singapore and gave the address of Aniket Building near Mithakhali crossroads for correspondence.

'The advertisement got around 400 replies. All applications were submitted with Rs 200 as form fees. Soon, many were informed that they were selected and asked to pay Rs 42,500,' said a cop.

When the first lot of aspirants approached Mehta’s office on Monday, they were shocked to find they had been duped. Mehta’s mobile phone was switched off."
